SUMMARY:I am Me - Not just a Refugee Photo Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:This exhibition brings together the creative work of refugees and asylum seekers who took part in a six-week photography workshop in 2025. Through the art of photography\, they explored how they see themselves — not through the lens of circumstance\, but through the richness of personality\, culture\, and lived experience. \nFirst exhibited in Kilkenny Refugee Week 2025\, this exhibition invites you to pause and look beyond labels\, to see the person\, the story\, and the shared humanity in every frame. \nThis project was funded by Creative Ireland and co-ordinated by the Kilkenny Local Authority Integration Team.

SUMMARY:Pilgrimage
DESCRIPTION:Pilgrimage is a photo exhibition created by Fellipe Lopes. Fellipe is a Press member of The National Union of Journalists (NUJ) and an immigrant from Brazil based in Ireland for the last 14 years. Fellipe is a Photojournalist with a focus on Human Rights\, Environmental Issues\, Education\, and Art Projects. \nEither because of unnecessary wars\, civil conflicts\, poverty\, persecution\, or climate change\, people move to survive and international law should protect them. This exhibition follows a journey across the Mediterranean marked by violence\, uncertainty\, endurance\, and hope. At sea and at the point of arrival on European shores\, bodies carry the weight of distance crossed. They also carry several nights without sleep\, thirst\, hunger\, burns from fuel and salt\, fear\, loss\, memories of torture and violence\, but hope and dreams. Arrival is often imagined as an ending. Instead\, it is another long chapter. Exhaustion meets unfamiliar systems\, new rules\, and long periods of waiting.\nThe journey continues through borders\, camps\, reception centres — places where time stretches\, and futures remain unresolved. Names\, memories\, and losses move quietly alongside resilience\, solidarity\, and the determination to continue. \nThe photographs in this exhibition do not document a single moment\, but a sustained dramatic journey\, one that reshapes lives long before departure and long after arrival. They continue to experience the impact of the policies designed to protect them\, but the reality is\ndifferent. \nThis is not a refugee crisis. This is a policy crisis. Those policies are reflected in these photographs presented in this exhibition.

SUMMARY:Rainbow Refugees Awareness Session (online)
DESCRIPTION:As part of Refugee Week 2026\, LGBT Ireland would like to invite you to join our upcoming online Rainbow Refugees Awareness Session on Wednesday\, 17 June\, from 12:00pm to 1:00pm. \nThis free online session is designed to build awareness and capacity among those supporting refugees and international protection applicants (IPAs)\, particularly around the specific challenges and experiences of LGBT+ people within these communities. \nWhy This Matters:\nWhile many agencies work hard to support refugee populations\, the specific experiences and challenges faced by LGBT+ refugees and IPAs frequently remain invisible. This invisibility can lead to gaps in care\, unintentional exclusion\, and missed opportunities for meaningful support. \nWhat You’ll Learn:\n– The unique barriers and risks LGBT+ refugees and international protection applicants face during displacement and resettlement\n– Why their needs are often invisible – and why visibility matters\n– Insights from lived experience and frontline support work\n– Concrete steps your agency can take to become more inclusive\n– Ways to collaborate with organisations working directly with LGBT+ refugees and IPAs. \nPlease feel free to share this invitation with colleagues and other stakeholders who may find it useful. \nWe look forward to connecting and learning together. \nKind regards\, \nLGBT Ireland Team

SUMMARY:Souleymane's Story - Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Watergate Theatre Kilkenny will host a film screening of Souleymane’s Story on 17th June at 7pm \nSouleymane is an asylum seeker from Guinea living in Paris\, forced to join the daily rush for a bed in a homeless shelter. Unable to work legally\, he earns some money by ‘renting’ someone else’s work profile on a food delivery app. Souleymane’s home situation is taking a constant emotional toll as he navigates the streets of Paris alone. \nAnchored by an extraordinary lead performance from Abou Sangaré\, Souleymane’s Story is a raw\, compassionate and quietly devastating story about one man forced to live precariously on the fringes of society.
