DESCRIPTION:Roscommon County Council contacted the 88 primary schools in the county and asked that they get involved in Refugee Week\, by watching and film and having a classroom discussion afterwards with their 5th & 6th class students. \nWaiting\, Waiting\, Waiting is a short film featuring young people from Youth Work Ireland’s Member Youth Services. It gives voice to their lived experiences of Direct Provision. This 10 minute film is made up of three shorted videos – Waiting to Start\, Waiting to Leave and Waiting for Life. \nAs this years theme is about home we suggested that the class have a discussion about home\, what it means to them and how their experience of home differs from the experience of children in direct provision. \nThe film was produced by Youth Work Ireland with the support of the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission and features ten young people aged between 14 and 24 who have lived or are living in Direct Provision Centres.

DESCRIPTION:This is an exciting new challenge for 5th and 6th class primary school students! \nUNHCR\, the UN Refugee Agency\, and Schools of Sanctuary* are inviting students to write a short poem\, or rap\, to celebrate Refugee Week (June 17th – 23rd). \nThe theme for the challenge is ‘Home’ and you can submit your entry in English or Irish. \nWe want students to write about the importance of home\, and how they would feel if they were forced to leave home without getting to say goodbye. We know that in some classrooms in Ireland there are young people who have had to do just that. \n*Schools of Sanctuary IrelandLink is external supports and recognises a schools good practice in fostering a culture of welcome\, belonging and solidarity for those seeking safety.
